We have a great English breakfast at the Fox and Pheasant Inn before getting on the road from Armathwaite to Glasgow - and the road is pretty narrow early on.
Back to Scotland!
They are reminding us that the Commonwealth Games are coming to Glasgow on 23 July. It is a very big deal here.
We pass a BBC building while entering Glasgow.
A polite reminder that 20 is the speed limit in the hood. They use miles per hour in this part of the UK. Our new home is behind the sign.
And a very nice place it is. Our landlady, Bernie, met us in the parking lot. We had made a trip to the Tesco Express to pick up some basics. Turns out that we had seen Bernie in the Tesco buying the very same basics for us. She remembered seeing us and we remembered seeing her!
Bernie and her husband lived in this apartment for the past 8 years. They moved to care for her parents....we are possibly her first tenants! Her husband's hat still hangs on the door and his motorcycle is in the car park.
We are in an ideal location. The arched bridge is over the River Clyde. We can walk to all the Commonwealth Games venues and to the city centre, parks, and museums.
Banners hang from every lamp post throughout the city highlighting the upcoming Games.
Our balcony...
our building
and our entire apartment building....unique structure....again, fabulous location
Meet Clyde, named after the river, of course...he is the official mascot of the Commonwealth Games.
The Clyde walkway follows the river for miles
The rescue ladders were every few yards, numbered, so emergency personnel could locate you quickly.
Other nice apartment buildings on our side of the river.
Not quite lost, but not quite sure....
The Clyde Walk is landscaped beautifully. Glasgow is beautifying everywhere...the games begin in just one week!
Clyde is everywhere and each one has been dressed/designed/decorated by various schools, churches and various other organisations.
It is pronounced GLAZ-CO
One of TWO pedestrian bridges
Most of the riverfront is new....and still building....
Central Station, the railroad station, and next door, the Grand Central Hotel
Looks dreary from the outside, but supposed to be quite nice.
Glasgow's answer to Edinburgh's Royal Mile
The Fraser Department Store, pictured below, was the largest on the mile....two blocks in each direction...and offered goods from each of the pictured banners.
Change just one letter and we have either Kara or Zora!
We have reached our destination, suggested by landlady Bernie, Princes Square. What she didn't tell us is that Princes Square is but one small of a huge, lovely puzzle!
We chose Barca's for our liner/dunner....and chose to eat on their balcony rather than inside.
It is a tapas bar....Tom has chorizo and I had mussels....both are HUGE servings! We had already ordered the paella because they have a special on paella on Tuesdays
The bathroom was ultra modern!
First time we haven't finished our meal....the tapas alone would have been plenty. Tom flustered our waitress by asking for a "to go" box. That doesn't happen in Britain unless the sign specifies "take away"....and Barca's did not....must be T's charm!
A quick stop in one more store before leaving the Style Mile for our nest.
The Armadillo, as it is called, will be used for the Commonwealth Games....this is viewed from our balcony....it is 11 pm....and still light!
The bridge is illuminated at night....
We stayed up past midnight, blogging and waiting to see if it could get dark...it finally did...and the bridge changed colour!
Even our bed lights up, but we don't change colour! Good night and thanks for reading!
