Sunday, July 20, 2014, Isle of Skye, Scotland

Early morning showers as we leave Oban, bound for the Isle of Skye....This may be the most boring of days....on our blog....skip it if you wish.....there are "these`' days in any travel....grateful that this is a stop light junction...

Our first bridge of today's journey...one way

A beautiful lake we are crossing

The weather sucks....not raining, gratefully.

Now and then, we get bursts of sunshine1

Second bridge....this time two lane....water, water everywhere

OK, so it is a two lane road, but still hard to pass these campers....by the way, we have seen very few campers/rv on this trip....until now....apparently, we are headed to popular camping area.....the Isle of Skye!

The clouds appear to be heavier

Lots of road and bridge work going on.  The tourist season and the best construction season coincide.

Green, green...

And then, the clouds dip again....it has been said that one can experience all four seasons in one hour in Scotland....beginning to believe it!

SUNSHINE!!!!

Finally make it to the ferry.  Kathy has been driving this whole time....many times exceeding the speed limit when possible.  Our ferry tickets are reserved for the 2:40 pm ferry.  We left at 9:30 am for what the locals describe as a two hour drive....we knew, therefore, that it would take 3 hours....and given our experience with missing the train in London, we gave ourselves plenty of time.  We made it in 2.5 hours!  Way to go, Kathy Earnhardt.  We made it in time for the 12:40 ferry, giving us time on the other end to explore!!!  very exciting...But would you believe (yes) that the young ferry attendant politely informed us that we could not board cuz the ferry was full....and we were booked for the later ferry anyway.  "Go park your car!"  We did so and then i, Kathy, got pissy.....whaddya mean "Park?"  The ticket agent told us that if we got there early, we could take the 12:40!!!  Went back to the young man....no way, he says.  Park again.  Then look at our ticket, which has no name on it....go back again...turns out they identify us by a number....park again....by the way, we are in the "stand by" lane.  Young man tells me there is no way....very rarely does any standby get on....we are 7 in the standby land.....fast forward to the fact that they take 8 standby cars!!!!!  We get on and T is reflecting a state of shell shock!!  I keep telling him:  "Never, never take no for an answer"

Our car is the black one on the right, at an angle, because of the motorcycles.  If there had been one more motorcycle, we would not have made it.

The Isle of Skye as we approach.

We made it early!!  A congratulatory selfie.

The terrain and the weather look pretty much the same as the mainland.

Both changeable.

There are lots of waterfalls on Skye.

A pretty little stream by the place we have lunch.  It's a short run to the sea.

We end up in this little coffee shop for soup and sandwiches.

The clouds still hover.

We arrive at the Pink Footed Goose.  Propane for cooking.

Oil for heat.

Our directions say "..just across the road from a black derelict barn..".  Yep.

A comfy common area with lots of books and DVDs.

Another small shower.

A comfortable bed for blogging.

A bird feeder just outside our window with lots of new and different birds to us -- fun to watch.  We went out to dinner to "The Old School"....and forgot to take pictures....good lamb and salmon.  That's it for today!
