Upon awakening, after some 9 hours!! sleeping, we noticed that the tide is out....hop out of bed and do a beach walk before breakfast.
The beach is so deep and the sand is very hard and firm, good for walking. Unfortunately, it did not stretch more than approx 40 yards in either direction, due to rock masses in the sea. A negative for a long walk, but a positive for privacy. Breakfast is brought to us each p.m. for the following day in a "hamper" (basket). The hamper is filled with bacon, farm fresh eggs with beautiful orange yolks, delicious bakery bread, fresh fruit, homemade muesli, yogurt, fresh squeezed OJ...french press coffees or tea...After breakfast, we head to town, population something less than 1,000.
A drive in to Takaka, the closest town reveals hanging flower baskets from most stores....and it appears that Girl Scout cookies are world wide....though they may not be quite the same "name".
This establishment advertised "wifi"....we decided to give it a try since ours at "Adrift" was painfully slow.....This, too, was painfully slow, but we had paid $5, so decided to give it the hour and see what we could accomplish.
The ambience was good....middle of the day, but there were still come locals playing pool, drinking beer, hoopin and hollering.....and they were all women.....no picture, sorry
These two advertisements high on the wall were advertising the local beer....just another example of the refreshing humor
We stopped at the local grocery and bought steaks and lamb chops.....hungry for lamb chops which we thought we would be eating nearly every night. Turns out that the Kiwis can't afford to eat the lamb chops.....it is all exported. The lamb loin chops were about $30/pd....still cheaper than a restaurant....and so much more relaxing. After 2 months on the "road" or the "sea", we were more than delighted to have a quiet night at "home".
