Devonport to Paihia, Friday, March 22, 2013

Another glimpse of Devonport before we head to the Northland.....most of the homes are white....and fences and gates galore.  Just as charming the morning after....like a really good lover!

We stop in Whangarei for lunch and to look around a bit....not much to see.....no pictures, pretty ugly, actually and we haven't said that very often, if at all...explains why I could not find a place to spend the night.  Take a look at this bacon above....this is what they call "streaky bacon" and why I don't eat it anymore....it is NOT cooked, but Tom loves it...yuk!

Rolling hills, farmland, mountains......another beautiful drive in NZ

It's a LOOONG hike and LOTS of stairs to our new "nest"....and that is not ALL the stairs!

We are richly rewarded, however, after the long climb....the view, the suite and the welcoming champagne with blueberries!

Check this smile....and the service par excellence...we reported a burnt out light bulb....Inge was there in minutes!!!!

Two of the five goats at Chalet Romantica....on the hillside behind the lodging, part of their "hobby farm"

Those are OUR jeans!!!!  Hanging out one's laundry is a big deal in NZ....some people have driers, but not everyone....We can tell who does and who does not by the towels.....those who do not have towels which can stand up by themselves and feel like sandpaper on our skin.....I don't think I have EVER hung out laundry to dry.....EVER!!!!  But I did in Paihia....and helped Inge hang hers as well....trouble is, if you forget to bring it in at night, gotta leave it out all day the next day....and hope for sun!

Walking to dinner....

No pictures of our food, but we both remember it as being good fish!  Good night!
