Tuesday, July 29, 2014, Cupar, St. Andrews, Scotland

We reluctantly leave the River Dee.

No clue.  Just a random structure on the side of the road.  Happens often in Scotland.

Not just an ordinary rock wall.  Note the iron work.

More narrow roads.  Not single track but too narrow for 2.

The landscape varies dramatically in the short space of only 30 miles.....dark green, light green, evergreen, deciduous, no trees at all....

We are at the top of Mount O'Cairn, 1,493' with spectacular views.

We find the little town of Fettercairn that has an arch entrance -- not sure why.

On main street, we find a nice hotel advertising scones with cream, butter and jam for £1.50 to go your coffee.

Tom is digging for the correct change.  We still don't recognise the coin denominations at first glance.

Nice dining room and common are, but the day is too beautiful to stay inside.

Fettercairn also has an exit arch?

We are headed to Cupar a little west of St. Andrews.  To get there, we must go through the city of Dundee.  With some time to kill, we thought that we would check out the Dundee city centre and maybe find some lunch.

Well, Dundee is a complicated city with lots of new road construction and diversions.  We find city centre but no place to park.  We finally find the approach to the bridge over the Firth of Tay and get the hell out of Dundee.  With both of us trying to find our way, we take few pictures.

Finally out of Dundee we find the little town of Leuchars.  AND it has an RAF base.

Kathy jumps out of the car and starts taking pictures.  Tom fears that she will be arrested for espionage or eaten by a guard dog.

We have seen and heard a few delta-winged fighter jets flying over.

Kathy approaches the guard without being shot to ask him about taking pix of the base.  He tells her to not take pix from the base.  But if she goes back to the public road, he can't stop her from taking any pix she wants.

After the base, we find a brewery while looking for an estuary.

Running out of time, we decline the brewery tour and buy a couple of bottles of their brew to take with us.

Then we find the estuary on the River Eden.

A beautiful place with lots of birds.

with plenty of oats,

and flowers

and even swans.

and other water fowl.  Across the way is a runway for the RAF base.

Little birds at the feeders.

We arrive at our new home, Ferrymuir Stables....125 years and totally renovated 2 years ago.  More about that later.

These two pictures are of the huge foyer!

Check the etching on the glass doors leading to the common area....which is pictured below.

Fresh fruit awaits us in our room.  There are only 3 rooms, plus one for our hostess, Mary, and one for her daughter who just graduated from the University of Glasgow.

It's the little things in life....7 kinds of shower gel,

2 washcloths

and a plethora of shampoo, conditioner, lotions and bar soap!

The original stables' entry....now the courtyard.

A fabulous to relax, read and blog

This old barn is right next door....part of the original property.

We are on our way to dinner.....to a town named Ceres, about 5 miles away.  T is driving and I just caught this out of the corner of my eye...We see this  "elderly people walking on canes" sign quite often.   Notice it on the lamppost.  Usually there is a "care home" nearby, but this time the streets are filled with these small duplexes....for blocks and blocks!!!!  It'a a Del Webb in Cupar, Scotland!!!!

Our dinner destination....

Lamb chops and black pig, respectively.....I guess that is opposed to a pink pig??

Made a wrong turn coming home....stone walls on BOTH sides of a single lane....HELP!!

Entering our nest....

All Black and its drivers are happy to be through driving for the day!!  Good night, even though it still looks like daytime.
