Saturday, August 16, 2014, Dungarvan, Ireland

This day we are moving mostly eastward across southern Ireland from Killarney to Dungarvan.  After a typical breakfast, we get on a typical open road with the typical threatening skies....

This time something a little atypical --  these trees are starting to turn colors.

Then we are back to the more typical -- large cemeteries....

And side-of-the-road castles.

Notice the white cat painted in a painted window below a painted pint-o-stout.

There is a Saturday market happening in Macroom, County Cork.

Note the neat hedge and tree trimming on the left.

Off the main road, we pass through Innishannon.

A sweet little town with many colored buildings.

The tunnel effect.

Ruins of old rock buildings appear quite often, randomly, along the roadways in Ireland.

We are traveling along the River Brandon as we near Kinsale.

Kinsale has a RNLI  office(the lifeboats place).

Kinsale has a great recreational harbor.

In stumbling around to find a parking place, we find one within 50 yards of the Tripadvisor No. 1 restaurant in Kinsale.

Bless his brave heart.

The place lives up to its reputation.

A nice cup of seafood chowder -- one of the best yet.

Kathy has the sea trout that she swears is salmon.

Oh darn, they are out of tuna.  I have to sacrifice and have my favorite fish-n-chips -- the best yet.

Waddling out to the street after a great lunch, we spy this old Ford.

Complete with the driving gloves!

It's a Saturday and families are enjoying the park

and gathering along the streets, just chatting.  I, Kathy, continue to be amazed at these people, whether they be UK or Irish....they talk incessantly.  And it's not just the women....in pubs, restaurants, shops, doorsteps....wherever two or more are gathered, there is ongoing conversation......without a breath taken.

We have had help from these wonderful people in NZ, too.  I believe Scotland had them in Edinburgh.  Volunteers who like to talk....that would be about everyone!

It took him about 5 minutes to tell us how to find the grocery store that is a block and a half away.

A few images of Kinsale, a very popular vacation spot for Europe.  Some books describe it as the "St. Tropez" of Ireland.  I wouldn't go that far, but it is attractive and colorful.

The #2 spot on Trip Advisor is the Poet's Corner.  It is a coffee shop, serving scones and a few sandwiches.  It is a used book store.  You may trade two of your own for one of theirs.  We decided to share a brownie, coffee and read our books.

YIKES!!!  We just came around a curve!  As a result of Ireland's predominantly agricultural culture, one sees some very LARGE and strange looking machinery on the roads......keep in mind that we saw all of these in the space of about 40 minutes.

We have arrived at Dungarvan 1/2 way between Cobh and Waterford on the coast.  Actually Dun Ard B&B is in An Rinn across the bay from Dungarvan.

Kathy likes the Audi

It means "high fort"

Another linner/lunner means we are "in for the night"
