Saturday, August 2, 2014, Cairnryan, Scotland

We woke up this morning in Stirling, Scotland.  I, Tom, had a breakfast starter of prunes and porridge.  The porridge had a wee dram of whisky for a good start.  Followed by haggis egg Benedict -- excellent.

This was to be our first day that it rained almost the whole day and we had some miles to cover.

We had been concerned about getting through Glasgow on the last day of the Commonwealth Games.  We modified the GPS recommended route to skirt the edge of Glasgow on a main motorway.  It worked pretty well with little delay.

We took a detour from the secondary route through the seaside town of Ayr.  Even though the spelling is different, we couldn't help but think of you, Ken and Lynn.

A lonely gull on a wet deserted Ayr beach.

These ruins of unnamed castles appear in many places in Scotland.

A rainy road with the wild foxgloves.

We were able to stumble across an excellent place for a Saturday lunch in Turnberry.

The starter gnocchi was extraordinary.

Kathy's salmon salad was excellent.

Kathy had the grilled lamb cutlets that was the best she had had on the trip.

I had lamb also.  Tenderloin in a cream sauce.  Delicious but not as good as Kathy's.

The Scottish flag is at half mast because one of the villagers had died.

Back on the road.

When we arrived at the Rhins of Galloway,  the weather started to improve a little.

This was one of the few places that I, The Director of Transportation, had booked.  So we were both nervous.  This time the blind hog found an acorn -- the place was good -- even by the Director of Lodgings' standards.

The flowers helped.

The wifi was fast and the fire place put out no heat.

Our evening meal was cheese, bread, and wine and early to bed.  Good night.
