Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Saturday, May 4, 2013

Vancouver is a beautiful city.....our approach shows the famous, and HUGE (1000 acres), Stanley Park, home to the Aquarium and various sporting venues.  We visited Vancouver in 2010 and stayed 3 days, traveling by car.  We thought we would take the morning to do some blogging and then go for a walk.  We blogged at Starbucks near the dock.  The WiFi was slow due to all the cruise ship crowd and, again, there was no toilet.  We only stayed 1 coffee's worth.

The ship docks at Canada Place, right in the heart of town.....like many of our stops, we do not need transportation; everything is walking distance.

Taken from the ship.....we truly are in the city center!  We decide to return to "Gas Town", rather than Stanley Park....to find some lunch, take a walk and people watch.

The clock "whistles" every 15 minutes and plays a song each hour!

The weather is perfect....75, sunny, gentle breezes....and the outdoor cafes are packed!

Love the name "Gassy Jack"!  How many "Gassy Jacks" do you know?????

Makes more sense if you read from left to right.....which is the way we were walking.

Weren't we taught "Clothes DON'T make the man"?

Our lunch stop....tough decision....this may look like a short walk, but we were on the streets for nearly 1.5 hours, looking at menus, watching people, enjoying the weather....and the fact that we will be back on the mainland USA in mere hours!!!  When we took our table outside at the Water St. Cafe, it was in the sun.....we were in the shade and shivering when served so the waiter pulled over the outdoor heater for us.....and we enjoyed delectable golden beet salad.

A hotel....don't remember which one....but eye catching for sure!  One side of the building reads:  "Lying on top of a building"....the other side reads: "The clouds looked no nearer than when i was lying on the street".

We forgot it is spring time!!!  It was fall where we were!

No, there is not a wedding aboard....rather, THE RECEPTION!  with 200!!! in attendance.  700 passengers disembarked in Vancouver.....and 700 more boarded.....of those 700, 200 are attending an all night wedding reception (the wedding was at 11 a.m.....and they have been drinking since....it is now 5 p.m.), 400 are a "one night stand", meaning they are DISembarking in Seattle....ANOTHER all night party.  Had we known this, we would have disembarked in Vancouver!!!!!  Worse yet, Holland America (oops!! that means Carnival!) sells tickets to just ride...no cabin....stay up all night or sleep in the deck chairs!!!  We will be on the lookout for this in future cruises.....for all our worry, none of the "party gang" was on our floor.....the old folks could get their sleep!

Good bye, Vancouver....British Columbia....Canada!
