Bend, OR, to Burley, ID, Tuesday, May 14, 2013

The drive from Bend to Burley, ID, is 474 miles.  "Gypsy", our GPS, says that will take 8.5 hours.  We were totally bummed to be leaving Lucy, Kristin, and Jamie.

We left at 8:45 a.m.  It took us 4 (FOUR!!!!!) just to get out of Oregon!

Bend is beautiful, but it is remote.....3 hours to ANYTHING!

Do you notice a monotonous, repetitive, monochromatic, boooorrrrring landscape here?

Crossing in to Idaho was just more of the same monotonous scenery.  Reminded us a lot of the drive from San Antonio to Phoenix..... west Texas is a wasteland that continues forever.  At least this drive gave us the thrill of two states!  We have been to northern Idaho....Coeur d'Alene and Lewiston.....we even whitewater rafted the Salmon and Snake rivers with our grandson, Garrett, in 2007.  Northern Idaho is very pretty with mountains, rivers....GREEN.  We beat "Gypsy's" time by 45 minutes and pulled in to Burley at 5 p.m. (We lost an hour due to entering mountain time).  We were tired, bored and hungry....never could find a place to eat lunch so we munched all the way.

We were directed to "Stevo's" for dinner by the desk clerk.  She warned us that "it is a hole in the wall, but the food is good".  Forgot to get a picture of the exterior.....just know that she was accurate.  On entering, we thought that Stevo was her cousin.  The Idaho trout and Idaho potatoes were good, but the prices for wine/beer were even better!
