Just a few more pictures of Mollie's...no one is around on this Good Friday, so I can roam around and click when I want. Good Friday is a national holiday....Most everything will be closed today, including the bars. Alcohol can only be served if it is secondary to food....cafes and pubs are in a questionable category.....so most proprietors have signs which say: "Alcohol can only be served with food". Many of the establishments that are open charge a 15% surcharge "to help pay the employees' holiday pay".
The faces on the table leg and back of the chair????
After blogging all a.m., we take off for a bite of lunch. This is a bus stop....Auckland is known as the City of Sails, but particularly like ....."all that low land, high sky and wide water". Nice description of this country!
What a great idea!!! We all know how quickly kids tire of toys....so RENT them!!!
Beets! Called beetroot here simply because the red is the root as opposed to the green tops!
This is called feta pie, but was also loaded with spinach.
Dizengoff is one of the few places open. Unbelievable, but there are NO cars on the streets, very few pedestrians....place is nearly abandoned. Very strict observance of the holiday. There are only three national holidays: Christmas, Good Friday and ANZAC Day, which is April 25, national day of remembrance in for all those who died in battle for both Australia and NZ. We learn after we order that they are one of the 15% surcharge places.
Returned from lunch just in time to go across the street from Mollie's to this facility for their Good Friday service. Most of the residents were in wheel chairs. There were eight nuns, all different nationalities. There was standing room only because many families came to be with their loved ones. It was very gratifying to be with these people for that hour.
Back to work at Mollie's, trying to finish our "land" blog before we get on the Oosterdam tomorrow. Even the driveway here is lovely!
The weather has turned warm again so we decide to do our blogging outside in the gardens.....Later, Tom went out to get the car filled with gas, a "take away" snack.....repack, reshuffle and good night.
